Peru and the United Kingdom sign cooperation agreement for the use of satellite images

Information will prevent environmental disasters, in addition, it will strengthen technological cooperation between Peru and the United Kingdom.
Authorities from Peru and the United Kingdom signed an agreement in order to carry out cooperation projects taking advantage of satellite technology to prevent environmental disasters. The head of the Peruvian Space Agency, General FAP Javier Tuesta Márquez, signed the agreement with the Charge d’Affaires of the British Embassy in Lima, Colin Gray, who represented the United Kingdom Space Agency.

This agreement allows joining efforts and resources between both countries to take advantage of satellite technology and prevent environmental disasters. The images from the PeruSat-1 satellite that the Peruvian Space Agency (Conida) will provide to the Damsat project for monitoring dams and mining tailings in Cajamarca and Cerro de Pasco, will generate relevant and timely information to avoid negative impacts on the environment and the population.

Research and innovation
The signing of the agreement was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Mines, Augusto Cauti Barrantes; the head of the Damsat project, Marta Roca; officials from Osinergmin, OEFA and from the space agencies of Peru and the United Kingdom. Gray highlighted the importance of maintaining cooperation between the two nations in research and innovation, means to find solutions to challenges facing the world, especially in the area of ​​sustainable development and climate change.
